Grant Park Dentist Answers: Is teeth whitening safe?
April 23, 2021Sedation Dentist Helps Patients Conquer Dental Fear
May 14, 2021As of now, the American Dental Association does not recognize cosmetic dentistry as a dental specialty. This means, that dentists aren’t required to complete specialized training while in dental school to have the title of “cosmetic dentist”. However, dentists who offer aesthetic dental procedures must complete some kind of training to be great at what they do!
Many dentists offer at least two or three cosmetic treatments. These techniques might be taught in dental school or the dentist may have completed continuing education courses after graduation.
Typically, there are two types of cosmetic dentists: general and advanced. General dentists and family dentists usually offer basic cosmetic services while advanced cosmetic dentists offer a wide range of aesthetic services to completely transform a person’s smile.
General Cosmetic Dentistry Services
Some of the most common and simple cosmetic dental treatments include:
- Dental bonding: an easy and inexpensive procedure that repairs chips, cracks, and gaps; also, covers dental stains and discoloration and changes the shape of a tooth
- Porcelain veneers: thin, durable, and natural-looking shells that adhere to the front surface of the teeth; veneers are custom made for one or several teeth in the smile zone
- Teeth whitening: in-office and at-home whitening treatments that are safe and extremely effective for dramatically brightening teeth
Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments
Dentists who desire to focus more on dental aesthetics in their practices offer more and more advanced cosmetic dentistry solutions, such as:
- Gum contouring: using the pinhole surgical technique and laser dentistry, gum tissue can be removed or added to make the gum line even and symmetrical
- Orthodontics: traditional metal braces, clear braces, and Invisalign® clear aligners shift teeth into their proper positions to improve appearance and health
- Snap-on-Smile®:a non-invasive solution to crooked, missing, and misshapen teeth; the custom-made smile fits flawlessly over the teeth and can be removed anytime.
- Botox® Cosmetic and Restylane®: facial injections enhance the smile by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and face
Smile Makeovers
Experienced cosmetic dentists work with patients to completely transform their smiles through smile makeovers. A smile makeover consists of multiple cosmetic treatments and a treatment plan designed specifically for each patient.
Dentists and patients work together to determine which procedures work best for the patient’s timeline and budget. The dentist will offer the appropriate combination of cosmetic solutions to ensure the patient achieves his or her desired smile.
Our Cosmetic Dentist
Dr. Abbey J. Lee at Smiles for Grant Park has the skill, experience, and reputation that all patients should look for in a cosmetic dentist. Her memberships, qualifications, and certifications include the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Georgia Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the American Academy of Facial Esthetics. In addition to her natural and learned skills, Dr. Lee uses the latest technology to ensure every procedure is as safe and effective as possible. Dental lasers ensure that treatments like gum contouring are precise, gentle, and comfortable. Traditional methods (scalpels and sutures) would leave a patient in serious pain and having to endure a long recovery.
There’s no dental cosmetic issue too big or small for Dr. Lee—her hundreds of satisfied patients are proof! Check out this review from one of our most recent patients:
“Honestly, it was the best dental experience that I’ve had in 30 years. Dr Lee and her team were thorough but extremely gentle. I have a small mouth and have been somewhat manhandled in the past, but everyone at this practice was very understanding and thoughtful of my comfort. Dr Lee talked to me about MY dental goals, and there was absolutely no pushing for additional procedures of doubtful necessity (which I’ve experienced at most other dentists.”—Erin M.
