June 28, 2018Five Beverage Hacks to Protect Your Teeth
July 13, 2018Are you interested in Snap On Smile, and curious to learn more? We recently shared a post about this treatment, but we know you might still have more questions! Many patients are intrigued by the idea of an instant smile makeover that doesn’t come with the same high price tag as porcelain veneers. A Grant Park Snap On Smile is a safe way to transform your smile without damaging your teeth or putting your oral health at risk. The following are some of the most common questions we hear about this treatment.
Can a Snap On Smile be used if I have missing teeth?
This treatment snaps into place around your natural teeth, so it can be a good choice for patients who have a missing tooth or two. If you have missing teeth but could not get a tooth bridge, a Snap On Smile may be an effective alternative. However, all patients will need to make an appointment with Dr. Lee before we can say for certain whether a Snap On Smile is appropriate for you. Contact our office and Dr. Lee will assess your case.
Will it affect the way I speak?
If you’ve ever worn a retainer after having braces, you know that having an acrylic appliance in your mouth often changes the way air flows around your teeth. If you get a Snap On Smile, you may notice that it causes some of your speech to sound slightly different. However, most patients quickly adjust and can easily sound like themselves again with a little effort. Not all patients experience this phenomenon, however. If you notice a change in your speech, practice speaking out loud when you are alone for a few days while wearing your Snap On Smile. This will help you expedite the transition period.
How do I clean my Snap On Smile?
This is an important question, as Snap On Smiles should not be cleaned in the same way you clean your teeth! When you get your Snap On Smile, Dr. Lee will give you detailed instructions and a cleaning kit, which includes a special cleaning solution. When you run out, just give us a call and we’ll provide you with a new bottle.
You will need to keep your teeth clean with your normal twice-daily oral hygiene routine (brushing and flossing) while using your Snap On Smile. You should also make sure you only wear the appliance after your teeth have been carefully cleaned. Wearing your Snap On Smile with a “dirty” mouth is a recipe for rapidly advancing tooth decay.
Can I eat and drink while wearing them?
Most patients eat and drink while wearing their Snap On Smile. This treatment has been designed to fit snugly over the teeth and can stand up to most foods. However, you should avoid very sticky or chewy foods, such as many types of candy and chewing gum. Never try to bite non-food items while wearing your Snap On Smile, however. This can crack the appliance and ruin the fit.
Does a Snap On Smile resist staining?
Snap On Smiles are made to resist staining, but can be stained by the same foods that leave pigments on your teeth. You should exercise caution when drinking coffee, soda, or red wine, for example. Cleaning your Snap On Smile promptly after eating dark-colored foods and beverages can’t help prevent stains from setting in.
